LIMERICK are to begin their 2015 National Football League campaign without key attacker Ian Ryan.
This Monday the St Senans club-man underwent an ankle operation in an attempt to rectify an on-going injury, which was also operating on last year.
Ryan is hoping to be back in training early in the New Year.
However he could be in a race against time to be fully match fit for the opening two rounds of the NFL - Limerick play Sligo in round one on February 1 while a week later they are away to Munster rivals Tipperary.
Ryan could target the big round three encounter home to Armagh. That tie for John Brudair’s Limerick is on the fixture list for March 1.
It is understood that Limerick will be back in full training in the coming weeks. Brudair and his management are to call a number of new faces into an extended panel before reducing numbers ahead of the McGrath Cup.
