SHANNON moved off the bottom of Division 1B of the Ulster Bank All-Ireland League thanks to a hard fought 20-16 Limerick derby win over UL-Bohemian at Thomond Park on Friday night.

UL-Bohs looked well-placed to end their four-game losing run in 1B when out-half Shane Airey kicked a 67th minute penalty goal to help his side into a 16-13 lead.

However, Shannon finished the game strongly. A try from exciting prop Niall Horan, converted by Tadhg Bennett, helped the Parish side seal an important win. UL-Bohs’ cause was not helped by three yellow cards in the second half, while Shannon also lost a player to the sin-bin.

Shannon led 10-3 at half-time, thanks largely to a well-worked try from Shane Mullally just before half-time, which Bennett converted.

Bennett and Airey traded penalty goals before UL-Bohs drew level in the 54th minute with Robbie Bourke’s try which was converted by Airey.

However, Shannon sealed just their second win of the campaign thanks to the ‘home’ side’s late try.
