LIMERICK FC’s recent winning run in the SSE Airtricity League came to an end on Friday night when they were beaten 3-0 by Cork City in Turners Cross.
Two goals from Mark O’Sullivan helped Cork to the win in the Munster Derby with Gary Buckley getting the other.
Manager Stuart Taylor kept with the same team that lined out in the win over UCD before the midseason break, with midfielder Shane Tracy again missing out through injury.
O’Sullivan got his first midway through the half and it was 1-0 at the break.
Close to the hour mark, Limerick went close when Cork keeper Mark McNulty flapped at a Prince Agyemang free-kick. Rory Gaffney retrieved possession and crossed for sub Ross Mann who saw his shot blocked on the line. Patrick Nzuzi then fired the rebound from over.
A Gaffney shot was then fumbled by the home No1, but within seconds of that, Cork doubled their advantage when Johnny Dunleavy’s cross from the left was headed in from close range by the in-rushing Buckley on 60 minutes. And eight minutes later, Cork had their third when O’Sullivan again hit the back of the net.
There was no way back for Limerick from there but they remain in sixth place and entertain Bohemians in Thomond Park next Friday, July 4.
