Limerick got their first win of this season’s Allianz Football League Division 3 thanks to a 2-11 to 0-11 win over Longford in the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday.

Having lost to Sligo in the opening round despite having most of the possession, Limerick needed a win to stay in touch with the leaders and any win is vital in the bid to avoid relegation back to Division 4.

Limerick played some good football in the opening half and were full value for their 0-9 to 0-3 lead at half time.

Ger Collins scored a brilliant goal after the break to strengthen Limerick’s position and a penalty from Seanie Buckley sealed the win late on.

Limerick now travel to Roscommon in three weeks time for their next game. There were also wins in Division 3 over the weekend for Fermanagh over Sligo, Cavan over Offaly and Roscommon over Wexford.
