DOON’S Scoil na Trionoide Naofa booked their place in the semi-final of the All-Ireland senior A colleges hurling championship with this 3-13 to 1-15 win over Presentation College, Athenry.

The Limerick side turned in a superb second half performance with three goals helping them clear after leading 0-7 to 0-6 at half time in Gurteen, the GAA grounds of Doora-Barefield.

The win sets up an All-Ireland semi-final next weekend against Leinster champions, Kilkenny CBS.

Indeed it will be a Limerick and Kilkenny dominated semi-final as Harty Cup champions Ardscoil Ris will plat St Kierans College, Kilkenny, who beat Galway’s Loughrea after extra time this Saturday.

In the opening half of this Doon quarter-final win, it was largely a shootout between free-takers. Colin Ryan ended the half with five points as Doon brought a one point lead into the second period.

The Galway side were left to bemoan eight first half wides.

In the second half, Doon made their break for the winning line with goals in the 37th and 40th minute.

The first was from Barry Murphy and the second from Dean Coleman. That had Doon 2-9 to 0-8 clear with 20-minutes to play.

But Athenry edged back into contention with six successive points to leave it 2-10 to 0-15 with seven minutes to play.

The response from Doon was impressive with Colin Ryan, Shane O’Connell and Stephen Ryan surging forward to dent the comeback hopes.

Doon were 2-12 to 0-15 clear when mark Coleman notched their third goal in the final minute to seal their passage into the last four of the Croke Cup.
