NEWCASTLE West regained their status as Limerick Senior Camogie Champions with a dominant eight-point 0-16 to 1-5 victory over local rivals Killeedy in Ballyagran on Sunday afternoon.

A Valerie Shanahan free opened proceedings in the final for Killeedy in the first minute. Newcastle West responded through Roisin Ambrose which was followed by four Rebecca Delee points in a row before Killeedy managed to finally add to the scoreboard again after 17 minutes.

It was the Delee/Ambrose show for the rest of the half as both combined for seven points. Making use of the space along with brilliant supply from a dynamite midfield partnership of Karen O’Leary and Deborah Murphy, enabled Ambrose and Delee to profit at their neighbour’s expense.

Killeedy's only response was a Valerie Shanahan 45’, it also meant that Killeedy went in at the half having not scored from play with Shanahan the only name on the scoresheet. The winners led 0-11 to 0-3 at the mid-way point.

Delee picked up where she left off pointing the first score of the second half. Killeedy got back into the game through a goal from Caoimhe Cunningham. O’Leary and Katie Dore traded scores before Delee struck on the double.

A scrappy last few minutes saw Newcastle West manage their lead to the death. Delee with a player of the match performance had the final say with a free, seconds later her side were County Senior Camogie Champions for 2023.
