Crescent College girls basketball team claimed the All Ireland U-16 ‘A’ title after a thrilling game in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght on Wednesday afternoon.

They recorded a 35-34 win over Presentation SS of Waterford as Ciara Lane, Jenny Morrison and Niamh Fenton all turned in outstanding displays.

Captain Ciara Lane - who was awarded with the MVP trophy after the game - was joined by her twin sister Aoife.

In a tight opening half, Crescent led 21-20 at the break and the game continued to ebb and flow in the third quarter before the Waterford girls pushed four clear entering the final break.

But Crescent refused to panic and they held their opponents to just five points in the final quarter to run out winners by the narrowest of margins.

Crescent’s win rounded off a brilliant week for Limerick schools at the national finals in Dublin as St Munchin’s completed a double in the U-19 and U-16 ‘C’ finals on Tuesday.
