THE appointment of TJ to the Limerick senior hurling role means that a new U-21 hurling management is necessary.

A five man selection committee has been put in place to recommend the new set-up.

Limerick GAA vice-captain Pat Heffernan is joined by Paddy Kelly (Kilmallock), Gerdie McGrath (Doon), Paul Foley (Patrickswell) and Mike Cunningham (Killeedy).

They are to start their deliberations this Thursday night.

Adare’s Shane Fitzgibbon, if interested, would have to be the front-runner to replace TJ Ryan, who had a disappointing tenure.

Three years ago he managed this group at minor level and were most unlucky to loose to Waterford in the semi-final after extra time. Limerick had beaten Cork in the opening round.

Underage for Limerick in 2014 will be Shane Dowling, David Reidy, Barry O’Connell and Dan Morrissey among others.

Limerick haven’t got the easiest of draws with back-to-back All-Ireland champions Clare coming to the Gaelic Grounds for a quarter-final tie.

If Limerick dethrone The Banner, they would be at home again to Tipperary in the provincial semi-final.
