Munster will play Scottish side Edinburgh in the opening game of the new Pro12 season, which will now be sponsored by Guinness.

The fixtures were announced today and Munster begin with a home tie in Thomond Park on the weekend of September 5/6/7 before travelling to Italy to play Treviso and Zebre on consecutive weekends in Rounds 2 and 3. They are then at home to the Ospreys before travelling to champions Leinster on the weekend of October 5.

Like other seasons, that clash will be the week before the European Cup begins although fixtures for that new competition have yet to be released.

The main change from previous seasons is that the return game with Leinster in Thomond Park will take place on December 26 or 27 with Munster away to Connacht the following weekend.

With Musgrave Park undergoing development works at the moment there won’t be any games in Cork until after Christmas.
