THE season ended for the Limerick senior footballers this Saturday evening with a 0-12 to 0-10 defeat to Sligo in the All Ireland SFC Qualifiers.
The loss brings an end to 2014 for John Brudair’s side who had qualifier wins over London and Antrim after losing to Tipperary in the Munster championship.;
This game in Sligo was level 0-10 each with three minutes to play but the home side found the late winning scores through subs Stephen Coen and Shane McManus.
The sides were level 0-6 each at half time.
Ger Collins and goalkeeper Brian Scanlon (free) were on the mark early for Limerick but the sides were pretty much even for the opening exchanges.
Limerick led 0-4 to 0-3 at the 25 minute mark.
But three points in a row had Sligo 0-6 to 0-4 ahead on half time.
But two injury time points from Limerick tied up the game with Ian Ryan getting both.
On the change of ends there was only one point in the opening 20-minutes of the contest and that wen to Sligo.
They were 0-9 to 0-7 ahead with 12-minutes to play.
Then Ger Collins brought Limerick back into contention and subs Eoin Hanrahan (free) and Micheal Brosnan helped level the contest.
But Sligo finished the stroinger on a day when they kicked 14 wides to just three for Limerick.
