MUNSTER will begin their Heineken Cup campaign with an away tie against Edinburgh on Saturday, October 12.
The fixture were announced this Monday for the first four rounds of games in the 2013-2014 Heineken Cup season.
Munster will renew rivalries with Goucester a week later in Thomond Park, a game that will revive memories of the unforgettable ‘Miracle Match’ in 2003. That game has a 6pm kickoff, and is bound to be a popular fixture with fans and publicans in Limerick city.
Munster’s back-to-back fixtures will be against Perpignan on December 8 and 14, the first of them at home with an early Sunday 12.45pm kickoff.
Munster will conclude the pool stages away to Gloucester and then home to Edinburgh in the New Year but fixture details for those games won’t be released until after the first four rounds.
Munster, who face into a new season without the retired Ronan O’Gara, Doug Howlett and Marcus Horan, are priced at 20/1 to win the competition.
Munster’s fixtures for the RaboDirect PRO12 season were also announced last week. In a change from recent years, they will play Leinster at home in October, a week before the Heineken Cup begins. For the last five years, Munster have played Leinster in Dublin early in the season with the return game in Limerick in late March/early April.
Munster begin their league campaign on September 6/7/8 at home Edinburgh before travelling to Italy to play Treviso and Zebre. They finish their September series of games at home to the Dragons,
Meanwhile, in other Munster news, Gerry Hurley has re-signed with the province on a one-year training contract. The former Garryowen player - who was Cork Con captain last season - was previously in the Munster Academy and actually played in the Heineken Cup in 2007 against Clermont Auvergne.
