MUNSTER secured their place in the Guinness PRO12 play-offs and boosted their hopes of securing a home semi-final thanks to a 30-19 bonus point win over Treviso at Musgrave Park on Saturday.
Second-placed Munster are now one-point ahead of third placed Ulster in the battle to secure a home semi-final next month. It looks ever likely that the result of Munster’s away tie with Ulster on Saturday, May 9 (2.40pm) at Ravenhill will determine if Anthony Foley’s men will enjoy home advantage for the play-offs.
There are now just two series of fixtures to come with Munster facing Dragons in Cork on the last day of the regular season.
A try from man of the match Tommy O’Donnell, on the stroke of half-time in his 100th appearance for the province, had Munster leading 20-7 against Treviso, with the home side scoring two other first half tries though Simon Zebo and CJ Stander.
Stuttering Munster secured a bonus point when awarded a 66th minute penalty try. Munster will be disappointed to have conceded three tries against their plucky opponents, however.
