Na Piarsaigh are Limerick senior hurling champions for the second time in three years following a 0-14 to 0-12 win over Adare in the Gaelic Grounds.

Sunday’s tight, tense SHC final was a disappointing affair but the constant mist and slippery conditions made life very uncomfortable for both sides.

Just 3,604 attended in the Gaelic Grounds to see the Caherdavin men add to the maiden victory in 2011.

They led from start to finish with four points from Man of the Match Kevin Downes helping them towards collecting the Daly Cup.

They faced into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead after 12-minutes.

Then Adare had a penalty saved.

But undeterred, Dave Keane’s men battled back to 0-5 each after 22-minutes.

But Na Piarsaigh finished strongly to lead 0-8 to 0-5 at half time.

Within 12-minutes of the restart the sides were level at 0-8 each with two John Fitzgibbon points helping Adare gain momentum.

But again Na Piarsaigh regained the lead with free-taker Shane Dowling and Downes moving them two clear once more.

Entering the final 10 minutes it was 0-11 to 0-10 to the Limerick city side.

Points from Alan Dempsey and Adrian Breen then left a goal between them.

Declan Hannon from a free and from play reduced the lead to a single score in the final minute but a Dowling free sealed the issue.

Na Piarsaigh now advance to the Munster club championship. They will play the Tipperary champions away on October 27. The Tipp final will be between Nenagh Eire Og or Loughmore-Castleiney. The Nenagh side are coached by former Na Piarsaigh goalkeeper John Fitzgerald.
