LIMERICK Racecourse will host a two-day St Patrick’s weekend of racing on this Saturday, March 16, and Sunday, March 17.
These promise to provide two days of thrilling National Hunt racing at the Greenmount Park track. Punters can look forward to some hugely competitive and exciting racing action.
The feature races to look forward to over the weekend include the The Kerry Group European Breeders Mares Novice Hurdle Grade 3 of €30,000, which was won by the James Joseph Mangan-trained Nora’s Fancy in 2012.
Another contest to watch on the day is The ITBA Fillies Scheme European Breeders Fun Dawn Run Mares Novice Steeplechase of €42,500 which was won by Knockfierna in 2012, trained locally by Charles Byrnes. The ground at Limerick is currently ‘yielding to soft’ with a predominately dry forecast. General Manager of Limerick Racecourse, Russell Ferris said: “We are most grateful for the continued support of the Kerry Group and the ITBA, for what is an excellent day of National Hunt racing. I thoroughly enjoy this days racing program as it focuses on top class mares.”
On St Patrick’s Day, racegoers can join in the family fun day at Greenmount Park with pony rides, animal petting farm, bouncy castle, face painting and much more. The new children’s playground will also be unveiled this weekend complete with climbing frame and slides. Children will be spoiled for choice at the races and will enjoy free admission each day.
General Admission is €15 per person and for those interested in racing both days there is a two day ticket @ €25 per person to include admission and race card.
Russell Ferris, General Manager of Limerick Racecourse said: “It is great to have racing back for St Patrick’s day as historically this was always a key fixture in the Limerick Racecourse calendar. We are delighted with the new children’s playground and I’m sure it will be very well received by kids and parents alike.
“There is so much happening over the two days that I would advise all patrons interested in the two day fixture to visit the website and avail of the value offers available.”
