KNOCKAINEY came from seven points down to beat Ahane 2-14 to 2-13 in their Limerick SHC game in Bruff on Thursday evening.

A Nigel Finch free proved to be the winning goal after Sean Lonergan had goaled form them moments earlier off a Patrick Kirby pass. Indeed Kirby, playing his first game for Knockainey this season, scored 1-4 but the win wasn’t enough to save them from being relegated to the Premier IHC for 2015.

Ahane, despite the loss, go forward to the quarter-final, assured of a second place finish in their group behind Doon. The other quarter-finalist will be the winner of the game between Patrickswell and Adare.

A Kirby goal got Knockainey off to a great start and they were 1-3 to 0-0 up inside the first quarter.

However, Ahane were the better side for the rest of the half and when a Richie Ryan goal levelled the game in the after 29 minutes it looked ominous for Knockainey who trailed 1-5 to 1-4 at the break.

Ahane led 2-11 to 1-7 lead with 15 minutes to go after O’Halloran raised a green flag, and Knockainey were in real danger.

However, the All Blacks rallied relentlessly and got their reward late on.
