Simon Zebo was the high-profile absentee from Ireland’s 6 Nations squad announced this Monday lunch time.

And there was only five Munster players included in total, as a number of players lost marginal calls to be involved.

As well as Zebo losing out to the Leinster trio of Luke Fitzgerald, Dave Kearney and Fergus McFadden as well as Ulster’s Andrew Trimble for one of the wing spots, prop Dave Kilcoyne also missed out as Leinster’s Jack McGrath won the battle to be Cian Healy’s understudy.

Tommy O’Donnell, Paul O’Connell, Peter O’Mahony, Conor Murray and Felix Jones are Munster’s only players included in the 34-man squad.

Keith Earls and Donnacha Ryan are out injured but Ian Keatley, Stephen Archer and Damie Varley join Zebo and Kilcoyne in being returned to the province.

Ireland begin their 6 Nations campaign at home to Scotland this Sunday in the Aviva Stadium at 2.30pm. They then play Wales the following Saturday, also in the Aviva.
