THE University of Limerick bowed out of the Sigerson Cup this Tuesday afternoon when losing 0-13 to 0-11 to Queens University.

Managed by former Limerick and Laois senior football boss, UL had to travel to Belfast for the preliminary round game.

The Limerick side, although underdogs, were boosted by their recent McGrath Cup win over UCC.

UL didn’t have any local representation in their panel but had star players in Kerry’s All Star James O’Donoghue at full forward and Monaghan’s Dessie Mone at centre back.

Queens led 0-6 to 0-5 at half time and went 0-11 to 0-7 clear with 10-minutes to go.

UL battled back to 0-12 to 0-11 but couldn’t level and the Belfast side ensured their win.

Meanwhile in the Trench Cup, Mary Immaculate were seven point winners over Limerick IT in the secondary competition of the Higher Educational senior football championship.

The Limerick side will play Letterkenny IT in the next round.
