A LIMERICK man will be one of an army of volunteers providing a Christmas Day dinner to the needy and marginalised in Dublin this weekend.

Andrea Iadorola, who lives in Mount Kennett Place in Limerick city centre, has been working with the Knights of St Columbanus, the Catholic Order which has organised the festive event in the capital since 1924 as a voluntary communications director.

As a result of this, he has spent much of his free time travelling around the capital identifying and inviting people to attend the free dinner at the RDS, where 250 volunteers with serve a three-course meal of soup, Christmas dinner and Christmas pudding.

Asked why he got involved, Andrea, who was born in Italy, said: “Ireland has veen very welcoming to me. I felt I wanted to give something back tro people who have not had the chance to find a house, a roof over their head where they can sleep.”

It’s not just homeless people who will attend the RDS, he added.

Many elderly and lonely people will also enjoy the company provided by Sunday’s event.
