Limerick man, 40s, killed in tragic road traffic collision named locally

The fatal collision occurred on the road between Pallasgreen and Cappamore on Sunday night
THE MAN who tragically died in a road traffic collision on Sunday night in east Limerick has been named locally as Bobby Ryan “Minor”.
The two-vehicle incident on the L1135 between Pallasgreen and Cappamore occurred just a couple of miles from Mr Ryan’s homeplace of Killuragh, Cappamore.
Mr Ryan, aged in his 40s, was the sole occupant of one of the cars. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body has been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick (UHL) for a post-mortem examination.
The occupants of the other car are understood to be a family from Doon. The female driver, aged in her 50s, and a teenage girl were hospitalised with “serious injuries”. A woman, aged in her 20s, and a teenage boy were conveyed to UHL for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
It is believed that Mr Ryan had worked abroad for a long number of years but had returned home in recent times and had applied for planning permission to build a house.
Cappamore-based councillor Martin Ryan said there is complete shock in the locality and sadness for everyone involved.
“Bobby was a lovely man, the Lord have mercy on him and his family. I know the family, we are all from the same locality. My father was originally from Killuragh - they would have been beside each other. The Ryan ‘Minors’ are all lovely people,” said Cllr Ryan, who expressed his condolences to the family.
He also knows the family from Doon who were in the second car.
“Hopefully they will make a full recovery - our thoughts are with them. Both families are all lovely people. It’s an awful tragedy,” said Cllr Ryan.
Fellow councillor, Noreen Stokes, from Pallasgreen, is currently on the Cashel & Emly Archdiocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes. She said there many people from Pallasgreen, Doon and Cappamore in Lourdes and the sad news has filtered through to the pilgrims.
Cllr Stokes extended her sympathies to the Ryan “Minor” family on the loss of Bobby.
“We will be remembering him and his family tonight at our Lourdes rosary at the grotto at 10pm. May he rest in peace,” said Cllr Stokes, who added that her thoughts and prayers are with the family members from Doon who were hospitalised.
“They are both hard-working families and respectable people. Everybody is saddened here in Lourdes,” said Cllr Stokes.
