THE LIMERICK ladies footballers begin their Lidl Division 3 National Football League campaign away to Roscommon on Sunday afternoon at 2pm in St Brigid's GAA club Kiltoom.
Sunday's fixture will be Patrick O'Connor's first competitive game in charge of Limerick. O'Connor has replaced Mike Quilligan and Sean Kiely as manager of the Shannonsiders.
O'Connor led Kilmurry-Ibrickane to their first-ever Clare senior ladies football championship title when they defeated Doora Barefield 3-8 to 1-13 in the 2024 county final.
Former Limerick U20 football manager Shane Kelly is the coach of the Limerick ladies football team. Kelly was part of the Fr Casey's backroom team that saw the Abbeyfeale side reach the county final in 2024 where they came up short against Adare.
Newcastle West's Kelly was a selector under Billy Lee's Limerick senior footballers and he has coached at club level across the county, previously with Gerald Griffins, St Senans and Newcastle West.
O'Connor will have to plan without two long time servants to Limerick ladies football. Cathy Mee and Deborah Murphy have both announced their retirements from inter-county football.Mee captained the Limerick ladies football team to an All-Ireland junior football championship title in 2018.
Roisin Ambrose and Lauren Ryan have been announced as joint-captains ahead of the upcoming inter-county season.
