MUNSTER JUNIOR CUP

Aisling Annacotty 3 Bridge United 2 (aet)

AISLING Annacotty qualified for the last four of the Munster Junior Cup in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon beating Bridge United 3-2 after extra time.

A last gasp penalty from Adam Foley, his second of the day, decided a very entertaining game in Annacotty.

Following their 3-0 win over Pike Rvs in the previous round, Bridge brought a large crowd with them and entered the tie full of confidence.

Aisling matched their opponents throughout. While youngsters Jack Aherne; Donnacha O’Leary and Isaac O’Sullivan were superb in the middle of the park it was the experienced pair of Adam Foley and Conor Coughlan who provided the winning of the game.

Adam Foley was denied the opening goal in the opening minutes when his viciously struck volley was superbly saved by former team mate John Mulready in the Bridge goal.

The visitors took the leaders on 13 minutes. A good cross by was headed clear by Alex Cuddy when Brian Corry pounced. His shot was blocked by David Moloney but fell to Jack O'Halloran who fired into the bottom corner.

Aisling were back on level terms midway through the half. O’Leary chased a through ball and keeper Mulready was adjudged to have fouled, allowing Adam Foley the chance to convert the resulting spot kick and he duly obliged.

Things got even better for the home side two minutes later when Foley played a superb ball in behind the defence for the speedy Sean Ezekannagha to race clear of his marker and cooly slot past the advancing keeper to put Aisling in front.

Aisling missed a good chance to increase the lead following good work by Coughlan, but O’Leary side footed wide from close range.

After the break, a superb save from Moloney by Aaron Curtis kept the visitors at bay but the visitors were not to be denied and got their equaliser with 15 minutes remaining.

Adam Fitzpatrick played a clever through ball and Filipe Mostowy fired across the ‘keeper into the far corner.

Both sides had a few half chances before extra time was called for.

O’Halloran was denied a second when his back heel was intercepted by Alex Cuddy and at the other end Brennan was inches away from finishing Oyibo’s cross.

With time running out and both benches contemplating penalties when a harmless looking ball from Conor Carew was allowed bounce by the visiting defence and Coughlan was in like a flash.

As he rounded the keeper, he was taken down, at the cost of an unfortunate injury, and once again Foley kept his nerve to tuck away the spot kick to win the game.

LAWSON CUP:

Regional Utd 3 Corbally Utd 1

REGIONAL United progressed in the Lawson Cup with a hard-earned win over Corbally United at Dooradoyle on Saturday evening.

Despite the miserable wet conditions, both sides gave it their all in an entertaining cup tie.

Corbally started brightly but it was the home side who broke the deadlock midway through the first half when Ben O’Shaughnessy fired in from the edge of the box.

Corbally got back on level terms before the break when Sean Kiely netted form a corner kick.

Regional were out of the traps quickest on the restart and within two minutes, O’Shaughnessy picked out Alex Keating to restore the home side’s lead.

O’Shaughnessy was again the provider when Regional extended their lead through Kieran O’Connell.
Corbally steadied thereafter and Liam O’Flynn fired in a free kick with twenty minutes remaining to give them hope.

With Sean Connolly prominent, Corbally pushed for an equaliser, but Regional held on to progress.

Pike Rovers 3 Cappamore 0

PIKE Rvs advanced in the Lawson Cup with a 3-0 win over Cappamore on Sunday afternoon.

Switched to UL because of the rainfall, Pike took an early lead through Conail Stapleton and you felt the county side were in for a rough afternoon.

However, some dogged defending kept the Hoops at bay until the 80th minute when Bryan Mambouana grabbed the comforting second goal.

Dylan Murphy converted a last-minute penalty to complete the scoring.

Geraldines 1 Athlunkard Villa 1

JUST one game in the Premier League where Geraldines and Athlunkard had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw win Garryowen.

With Corbally mired in the remaining relegation spot, both these sides were looking for points to try pull clear of the danger zone and while both were looking at this fixture as a potential three pointer, in the end will be quietly content with what could yet prove a vital point.

The home side kicked off on the front foot and had Villa defending desperately to keep the game scoreless.

That lasted twelve minutes before Dines found their way through. Kian Mitchell won the ball in midfield and put Jake Laemy away on the right. His delivery at pace was met by the inrunning Tony Mambuana to finish from close range.

Athlunkard kept their cool and played their way back into the tie.

On a quick breakaway Shane Cope sent substitute TJ McDonnell clear and faced one on one with the keeper, held his nerve to finish.

The second half was nip and tuck until the 78 th minute when Mambuana was fouled in the area presenting Kevinn Barry with the opportunity to give Dines the lead from the spot.

However, a superb save by Villa keeper Robert Power ensured his side a share of the spoils.

DIVISION 1B leaders, Ballynanty Rvs overcame a potential banana skin to record a 2-0 win at home to Nenagh.

The Tipperary side gave Balla plenty of problems early on but the home side eventually took control with Jamie O’Sullivan causing havoc out wide.

The deadlock was broken before the break when Derek Daly’s ball across the face of goal gave Eddie Radcliffe the easy task of finishing from close range.

Balla’ tacked on a second with fifteen minutes remaining when Dara McNamara scored after good work by Darragh Hughes.

Patrickswell 2 Pike Rvs B 2

PIKE Rvs title hopes took a knock-on Sunday when they let a two-goal lead slip when they shared the spoils with Patrickswell after a 2-2 draw.

Pike took the lead on 43 minutes when Logan O’Byrne teed up David Healy-Lawlor for a debut goal.
Pike struck again two minutes later through Andre Ritter to go in two ahead at the break.

The home side looked to have held on until the 86 th minute when Lee Carey pulled one back.
With Pike waiting for the final whistle, they were rocked when Pat Kiely struck a last gasp equaliser.

ROUND-UP

FAIRVIEW'S FAI Youth Cup dreams were dashed on Sunday when they fell to an extra time defeat to Peamount. Chad Molloy was on the mark for the Blues who finished 1-1 on 90 minutes.

However, the hosts finished stronger netting twice in extra time to progress.

In the Premier A League, Dion Graham put Caherdavin Celtic ahead but Aisling Annacotty B fought back to win 4-1. Oscar Fitzgerakld netted twice, Alex Carragher and Ben Kiely also obliged with goals for the winners.

Fairview moved joint second in Division 2B following a 4-0 win over Corbally Utd C. Ethan O’Sullivan (2), A Considine and Darren Roche were the scorers, while a Kane Troy double helped Summerville Rvs B to a 2-0 win over Caherdavin Celtic B.

Division 3A leaders beat Northside Legacy 3-1 thanks to a Philip Clancy double and one from Adrian Ryan.

In the Under 17 Premier League, Aisling proved too strong for Shelbourne running in seven goals without reply.

Jack Cregan scored two, with K Griffin, Sam Francis, P Edroso, Ewan Coulter and Aaron Guerin making up the winner’s tally.

Maksym Sarnavskyi scored the only goal of the game for Charleville in their win at Regional Utd in Division One while in Division Two.

Murroe proved much too strong for a young Aisling Annacotty C side. J Blackwell scored five times for the winners. D McGahon, P Ryan, H Gleeson, C Connolly and C Long also netted for the winners.

Caherconlish also ran up a high score, versus Summerville Rovers. M Koyce and A O’Brien scored three apiece with S O’Dwyer and C Ryan completing the scoring.
