Action from Aisling Annacotty's LDL clash with Pike Rovers earlier this month I PICTURE: Brendan Gleeson
FOLLOWING last weekend’s Oscar Traynor Trophy final, it’s back to local action for the top teams this weekend with a mixed bag on offer.
Aisling Annacotty are in Munster Junior Cup action with a place in the last four on offer when they host Bridge United in Annacotty at 2pm.
The Clare side will provide a stern test for Declan Farmer’s side as displayed when they beat Pike Rovers in the previous round.
Aisling’s superb 14 game unbeaten run came to a halt last week when they went down 2-1 to Nenagh.
The up side of that result is that they will not be complacent as they go into Sunday’s tie. They have a superb squad in Annacotty and as the season progresses, they are getting better.
On their day they are capable of beating anyone but they will be made earn any result they get from this tie. The Lawson Cup continues apace with seven ties down for decision.
Premier League leaders Fairview Rangers host Summerville Rovers A on Saturday evening. Summerville have been showing signs of a big improvement but this game may have come a little too soon for them.
Also on Saturday, Regional Utd welcome Corbally Utd in the only all premier clash. The Reds had a good win in the Tuohy Cup last week and with the league no longer a possibility these cup ties are vital to keep the club ticking over which should give them the advantage.
Pike Rovers will be keen for a boost when they host Cappamore Celtic which could make for an uncomfortable morning for the county side.
Janesboro will also be looking for a bounce back after they crashed out of the Tuohy Cup to Regional last week when they welcome Star Rovers to Pearse Stadium.
Granville Rangers, going through a little difficulty at present, would prefer not meeting Ballynanty Rvs at this time but will no doubt give it a good go.
Elsewhere, Lisnagry host Shelbourne with Knockainey at home to Charleville in another weekend fixture.
There is one game in the Premier League and it is important at the other end of the table when Athlunkard Villa travel across town to meet Geraldines in Garryowen.
In the Premier A League, Moyross will be hoping to bounce back after a shock Lawson defeat to Herbertstown. They play Prospect Priory A while Carew Limerick Utd and Kilmallock Utd A meet in Carew Park.
In the FAI Youth Cup Fairview Rgs are on the road to take on Peamount vs Fairview Rangers.
Other games worth a look are Corbally Utd B v Herbertstown A and Murroe A v Aisling Annacotty D in Division 1A while in Division 1B, the top two, Balla and Pike Rovers, play Nenagh B and Patrickswell respectively.
