BALLINGARRY soccer ace Anthony Forde has joined English National League side Altrincham FC.

Thirty two-year-old Limerick wing-back Forde has moved to The J Davidson Stadium as a free agent on an 18-month contract.

Forde goes straight into goes straight into the Robins sqaud to face Hartlepool United in the Enterprise National League on Saturday. Altrincham play in the National League, the fifth tier of English football.

Forde, who represented Ballingarry AFC at schoolboy level, is a former Rep of Ireland U21 international.
Forde, a former student at Colaiste na Trocaire, Rathkeale, is son of Noel and Christine.
Forde began his journey in football with hometown club Ballingarry FC as a youngster, but departed for the English Midlands in 2009 to join the academy setup at Wolves.
It was at Wolves that he was handed his professional debut featuring in a League Cup tie under manager Mick McCarthy against Northampton Town in August 2011.
A few months later, Forde made his Premier League debut away to Chelsea. The then 18-year-old was handed his first start in the top flight against Arsenal at the Emirates.
Forde has since made over 400 appearances across the top five divisions in English football.

He spent nine seasons in League One and the Championship with Walsall, Rotherham United and Oxford United before winning the National League title with Wrexham in 2023.

After also being part of the Red Dragons' squad that won promotion from League Two a year later, the Limerick man finished last season in League One making 11 appearances for Burton Albion.

"I'm delighted to have Anthony with us," said Altrincham FC manager Neil Gibson.

"Obviously he's played at a much higher level over the last few years, has a very strong playing CV and been part of a very successful Wrexham side, winning National League and League Two promotions.

"He'll bring that experience, as well as leadership qualities, into the group and his creative ability down the right side will give us more options. He's the type of player we want to bring into the building, with that large amount of EFL experience, he's a fantastic signing for the football club and we're delighted to get him over the line."
