Ballynanty Rovers 1 Fairview Rangers 1
IT'S as you were in the LDL Premier League after the top two sides played out an entering 1-1 draw at Ballynanty Park on Sunday afternoon.
Perfect weather brought the crowds out too see if Ballynanty Rvs could halt Fairview’s race to retain their title. The home side needed to avoid defeat and they succeeded in that regard, coming back from a goal behind to earn their point.
The first half was a rather tentative affair only brought to life in the final minute when Oleg Vysochan opened the scoring. However, what the first half lacked in intensity was more than compensated by a highly entertaining second 45 minutes.

Jason Cross’s downward header that bounced over the top of the Balla goal and at the other end an Eddie Byrnes shot that forced Josh McCarthy to turn the ball around the post were the only chances of note before Fairview took the lead on 45 minutes.
Great determination by Oleg Vysochan saw the winger cut in from the left and turn the defence inside and out before firing into the bottom corner.
As expected Balla emerged after the restart with a pep in their step and Vinny Ryan was just over with a volley in the opening minutes.
Balla’ got their equalise on 70 minutes. Danny O’Neill’s block on Kane Connolly effort was deemed a hand ball and from the resultant kick Ryan netted to tie the game.
Shortly after, Balla would have taken the lead but for Jason Cross’s superb block to deny Adam Costello followed up minutes later with another good block; Danny O’Neill stopping Connolly.
Fairview had a number of chances in quick succession, Vysochan volleyed over from a good position and Darragh Rainsford twice was inches wide of the far post while a Shane Duggan free kick forced a wonderful save by Tommy Holland.
The home side had a great chance to win it at the death when Ryan’s cross was headed back across goal by Jamie Greaves but the unmarked Connolly seemed wrong footed as he blazed over from six yards.
