PREMIER LEAGUE:

Fairview Rgs 1 Nenagh AFC 1

FAIRVIEW Rgs slipped up on Sunday when they failed to take full points in their game with Nenagh at the Fairgreen.

A win would have given Fairview the opportunity to seal their first title in 22 years with a home game against Ballynanty Rvs next Thursday.

However, depending on Pike’s remaining results, it may push out the sealing of the title to their penultimate game against current champions Aisling Annacotty.

Fairview carried a number of injuries into the game and they also opted to keep a number of their big game players on the bench, a plan that in hindsight may have backfired.

They never got their game going and even when they cleared the bench, they struggled to break down a dogged Nenagh defence.

The visitors opened the scoring when Adam Ryan’s ball over the top was volleyed home by Dylan Morrison.
Fairview were back on level terms minutes later when Josh McCarthy reacted quickest to forced Danny O’Neill’s corner kick over the line.

Fionn Higgins was just off target with a sweetly struck volley while stand-in Nenagh keeper for Mark McKenna was not called to make a save of note until the final minute when he kept out a Gbadebo Habideen near post shot.

Nenagh had a great chance to snatch the win at the death when the call was blocked on the line four times before being hacked to safety.

Higgins put Cillian Scully away on the left. He centred to Dan O’Meara but his shot from six yards was blocked by McCarthy.
The Fairview keeper was up like a flash to stop Scully netting the rebound and when the ball fell to O’Meara, the keeper again came up trumps. Incredibly, the visitors had another chance but Scully was stopped on the line by Jason Cross.

Newport 0 Pike Rovers 3

WHILE accepting the destination of the title is in Fairview’s hands, Pike did all they can do by taking three points at Newport.

Pike took the lead midway through the half when Mikey Morrissey’s cross was met by the on running Leon Kirrane to slot home.

Kirrane scored a beauty for a second, twisting and turning the Newport defence before striking home from the edge of the box.
The win was sealed when Ben Kennedy headed home Seamus O’Carroll’s cross

DIVISION 2B EAMON RAY CUP FINAL:

Moyross B 4 Lough Derg 2

MOYROSS captured the first part of a potential league and cup double when they won the Eamon Ryan Cup on Saturday evening, beating Lough Derg 4-2 in Jackman Park.

The winners brought a huge band of supporters to local headquarters which created a super atmosphere as the tow sides battled it out.

The crowd were silenced when JP Tansia fired the Tipperary side in front but buoyed on by their vociferous support Moyross raced into a 4-1 lead.

Anthony Quinn picked the perfect occasion to chip in with a hat trick and Barry Quinn, another player for the big occasion, also got on the scoresheet.

A second yellow card just after the fourth goal, dampened the celebrations somewhat as the leaders had to play the second half with ten me.

The numerical advantage saw Lough Derg play their way into the tie as Moyross began to tire.

Alex Quinn reduced the deficit and while Moyross were clinging on, guts and determination (and some fine goalkeeping by Jody Llewelyn) combined to ensure they did not concede again.

Moyross went close in the opening minutes when a Korey Browne free kick dipped just over the crossbar.

Lough Derg opened the scoring when the impressive Cian O’Donoghue put JP Tansia in behind the Moyross defence and he kept his cool to slot the ball past the advancing Moyross keeper Jody Llewellyn.

Minutes later we could have had an exact replica of the opening goal but on this occasion, under pressure from Browne, the striker blasted over the top.

A foul on Barry Quinn presented Moyross with the opportunity for the equaliser and they took it when Anthony Quinn’s free kick from out on the right snuck into the corner.

With 15 minutes on the clock, Moyross were awarded a free kick in the exact same spot and Anthony Quinn stepped up again to repeat the feat nestling the ball in the bottom corner.

Lough Derg were denied an equaliser shortly afterwards when a corner kick fell to the feet of Jack Grace six yard from goal and he let fly but a brave block by Lee Quinn prevented a certain goal.

A quick breakaway sent Barry Quinn in at the other end but a last gaps challenge by Alex Quinn diverted the ball to safety.
Llewelyn used his feet to good effect to deny Daniel Tighe from point blank range and followed up with a super save to deny Tansia.

Moyross opened up a two goal lead when veteran striker Barry Quinn latched onto Tyrone Fitzgerald’s through ball to volley first time to the back of the net for a trademark goal.

It got even better just before the break when Anthony Quinn pounced on a loose ball to fire home to put the winners well in control.

After the break Llewellin saved well to deny Tighe and at the other end Lee Quinn saw his effort smack off the crossbar.
Lough Derg were thrown a lifeline when O’Donoghue’s free kick was clicked on by Sean Lyons for Alex Quinn to score.

The extra man was having an effect as Moyross were tiring. Llewelyn made a good save to deny Fogarty and followed up with an even better one turning Lyon’s shot from the rebound onto the crossbar to suck the air out of Lough Derg’s hopes.

The Reds are currently locked together with Herbertstown at the top of the table and the final game of the season between these two sides is sure to bring out the fans in huge numbers to see if they can complete the double.

Moyross B: Jody Llewelyn; Sean Griffin; Korey Browne; Thomas Power; Dean Quinn; Jason Keane; Kane Troy; Tyrone Fitzgerald; Lee Quinn; Barry Quinn; Anthony Quinn. Subs: Antone Moran; Lee Nolan; Adam McInerney; John Mitchell; Martin Duggan; Marcus Rice; Damien Quinn.

Lough Derg: Cathal Mullane; Sean Lyons; Jack Grace; Alex Quinn; Cian Commins; Cian O'Donoghue; Cian Oakley; Jay Collins; Daniel Fogarty; JP Mbokha Tansia; Daniel Tighe. Subs: Tom O'Connor; Charlie Grace; Jason Monaghan; Dean Lawlor; C Byrne; C Foley; P Bradley.

UNDER17 DIVISION 2 CUP FINAL

Charleville 4 Murroe 2

CHARLEVILLE Under 17’s made it an even more memorable week for the club when they captured the Division Two cup with a 4-1 win over league champions Murroe in Jackman Park on Friday evening.

The buzz that followed the club following the Junior A team’s success on Wednesday in the Premier A Cup final was evident in this youth squad as they took the field on Friday.

They needed that buzz to keep out a confident Murroe side who had early chances through Holmes, Wright and Woodland.
Once the Cork lads came to grips with the pace of the game they created a good opening when Mark Power blasted over from a good position.

The Charleville was not to be denied however and from a corner minutes later he headered powerfully to the net from Meehan’s corner kick.

The game was evenly poised when Charleville doubled their lead four minutes after the restart. They were awarded a free kick 40 yards from the Murroe goal and Jamie O’Toole hit an unstoppable shot right into the top corner for a wonderful goal.

When substitute Kieran Issak blasted in from close range to make it 3-0 on 65 minutes it looked like game over.

However, Luke McIntyre converted a penalty kick to give Murroe some hope but that hope was short-lived as Kieran Issak struck again to restore Charleville’s three goal lead.

Luke O’Sullivan pulled another one back for Murroe seven minutes from time but that was as good as it got for the league winners. After the game both league and cup trophies were presented to the respective captains of two sporting sides.

Charleville: D McNamara, S Fearn, E Horan, M Power, T Walsh, A Kennedy, C Meehan, E O’Riordan, C Bluett, J O’Toole, D McKenna. Subs: C Crowley, Kieran Isaak.
