FAI JUNIOR CUP:
Regional Utd 0 Fairview Rgs 4
FAIRVIEW Rgs picked the perfect time to hit peak form on Saturday evening when they overran Reginal Utd to progress in the FAI Junior Cup.
The two sides met in the League a couple of weeks back when Fairview won 2-1 but, on this occasion, the Dooradoyle club were unable to match the Blues.
The visitors were out of the traps within five minutes when returning Irish International Jake Dillon opened the scoring.
Regional barely had time to regroup when they were hit again two minutes later when Brian Aherne delivered for Darragh Rainsford to score.
The in-form Rainsford killed off the game as a contest two minutes after the restart when he claimed his second after good work from Cian McNamara.
The scoring was completed ten minutes from time when Josh McCarthy made it 4-0.

Pike Rovers 0 Janesboro 2
The three remaining FAI Cup ties took place on Sunday morning when Pike Rvs were sensationally knocked out of the competition by a hard-working Janesboro XI.
Mike Aherne and Paul Burke have assembled a fine band of young players who put in a admirable shift and few will begrudge that they were worth the win.
Granted once they took a first half lead, it was a rearguard action but they never panicked and got their reward at the end.
While the defence as a whole were superb veteran Brendan O’Dwyer had a wonderful game popping up in the right spot time and again to thwart the Hoops.
Pike had enough possession to win the game but all too often that possession was in harmless areas and the visitors had no issue watching as they threaded the ball across their back line, and back again.
The visitors started brightly and Pike knew they were in for a game. Any doubts they had were dispelled after ten minutes. O’Dwyer’s long ball forward saw Kai Joyce time his run perfectly to break free of the Pike defence. Nodding the ball past the advancing Gary Neville, the ‘Boro striker kept his composure to fire into the net for a superb goal.
Pike began to assert their authority but despite this, the visiting keeper hardly had a save to make in the opening half, the nearset Pike came to an equaliser was a first time shot by Dylan Murphy that roll narrowly side of goal.
The second half was more of the same with Pike dominating possession and ‘Boro defending resolutely.
It looked like we had a tied game when a good Murphy run ended with a ball across the six-yard line for the in-running Dylan Kelly Higgins but a wonderful save by Aaron O’Sullivan in the ‘Boro goal somehow kept the ball out.
A through ball from Shane Walsh put Murphy clear but again he was inches wide of target. Minutes layer Paudie Murphy’s cross/shot struck the crossbar as the Pike pressure mounted.
Pike had claims for a penalty for a challenge on Vojtech Ptacek but the Referee waved away the protests following which Pike were reduced to ten men.
To rub salt to the Pike wounds, a powerful clearance by Eoghan Burke sent Boro on a breakaway and while Gary Neville blocked a shot by Calum O’Connell, the follow up by Josh Toomey was planted firmly in the net to seal the win.

Nenagh AFC 7 Newport 1
THE all-Tipperary clash between Nenagh and Newport in Nenagh resulted in a much easier than expected 7-1 win for the home side.
Things looked to be going in a different direction when Christy Doyle put Newport ahead on fourteen minutes.
However, two goals before half time by Dylan Morrison and Matt O'Gorman sent Nenagh in ahead at the break.
Newport’s comeback plan was thwarted two minutes after the restart when Nathan Kelly made it 3-1.
A ten-minute blitz in which Nenagh scored four times gave Nenagh a whopping 7-1 win.

Murroe 1 Mungret Reg 5
Mungret Regional completes Limerick’s representation in the open draw of the competition following a 5-1 win at Murroe.
The Division 1A side have been going well to date although the absence of a number of players didn’t help their cause.
Mungret for their part, were prepared superbly for the tie and had the perfect start when Hamza Selman Celik opened the scoring after two minutes.
Murroe battled gamely and were back on level terms by the great courtesy of William Clohessy’s goal.
The Premier side upped the tempo on the restart and Hamza Selman Celik scored again to restore their lead on 51 minutes.

Ballynanty Rvs 1 Aisling Annacotty 2
Once again, the FAI Junior Cup threw up a thrilling encounter on Friday evening when Ballynanty Rvs hosted Aisling Annacotty at LIT.
Two minutes into injury time, Balla looked like they had caused a major shock as they led Aisling 1-0. However, two minutes later, Balla were out and Aisling marched forward to the open stages of the national tournament.
Disappointment does not do justice to the home emotions after the game. They were rightly gutted after outmaneuvering their opponents for most of the game.
That said, Aisling are also due credit as they never gave up the fight when it looked like it was game over.
The large crowd that turned out hardly expected the drama at the end as the remainder of the game failed to take off.
Aisling threatened early on but Balla defended stoutly and in the middle of the park Eddie Byrnes was excellent throughout.
Aisling will be concerned that they were so close to and exit. They were poor on the night and will be first to admit they lucked out on this one.
Balla took the lead on the hour mark with a cracking goal. Shane Dillon picked out Jamie Greaves who cut inside his marker and let fly from 25 yards to the top corner.
Tony Mambuana went within inches of doubling the lead minutes later but his shot trickled wide of the post.
As the game wore on Aisling went all out for the equaliser and Conor Coughlan was denied by a fine save from Eugene Hurley in the Balla goal.
Two minutes into injury time Joey Rushe played a hopeful ball over the top and the ever-willing Joel Coustrain took off and was upended in the area. From the resultant spot kick Coughlan netted to level the tie.
With spectators preparing for extra time, a harmless back pass to keeper Hurley saw Coughlan race in to block the clearance and got his reward when the ball struck him and rebounded into the empty net to secure a superb comeback.
Ballynanty Rovers: Eugene Hurley; Liam Byrnes; Adrian Power; Fionn McInerney; Thomas O'Connor; Cian Fitzgerald; Jack O'Callaghan; Eddie Byrnes; Shane Dillon; Tony Mambuana; Jamie Greaves, Subs; Dara McNamara; Calum Kiely; James Fitzgerald.

INTER COUNTY YOUTH:
Limerick DL 2 Clare DL 1
Limerick District League kicked off their 2024/24 campaign with a 2-1 win over the Clare League at Jackman Park on Friday evening.
With Clare and Kerry drawing their opening game, the result means Limerick progress to the next round. They will do so as group winners if they avoid defeat when they meet the Kingdom.
Limerick had to withstand some good Clare pressure in the opening half with Corbally Utd keeper Darragh Newman making a fine save to deny Adam Kilker.
On the half hour mark, Ethan Joyce and Scott Connolly combined to create an opening for Aaron Cusack but his chip over the keeper rolled narrowly wide.
Scoreless at the break, the deadlock was broken two minutes after the restart.
Pa Steed played Cameron Walsh away on the right and he played a ball across the Clare goal where Aaron Cusack arrived on cue to volley the ball home.
Limerick’s joy was short-lived however as the Clare lads were back on terms within four minutes.
Losing possession in the middle of the park, Limerick were punished when Jack Daly tucked away the equaliser.
Limerick responded well to the setback and got the crucial winner 15 minutes from time.
Sean Madden picked out Calum O’Hanlon who made his way to the bye-line and despite being outnumbered managed to create space to try a shot from an acute angle and was rewarded when the ball flew into the top corner for a worthy winner.
Limerick DL; Darragh Newman, Ethan Joyce, Rian Goggin, Eoin Cunningham, Sean Madden, Pa Steed, Jamie Mitchell, Scott Connolly, Aaron Cusack, Calum O'Hanlon, Cameron Walsh, Subs; Alex Koyce, John Hehir, Jamie Doherty, Jayden Hennessy, Alex Burchill, Allen Kiely, Marius Palen.
