OOLA'S Darragh O’Donovan strutted his stuff on the Croke Park turf on Sunday for Limerick but a week earlier his home club were putting their best foot forward in their Dawn to Dusk fundraiser.
They organised the walk to help pay for some of the cost of the redevelopment of the GAA field in Oola. They are nearing completion of phase one of the project.
A community walkway was installed which will be perfect for locals who want to go for a stroll in safety, especially because they are located near the busy N24.
Marie O'Donnell, Oola GAA Club PRO, said they had a great turnout for their Dawn toDusk fundraiser.
“We had over 220 people out over the course of the day. So many people complimented the development and are delighted to have this facility in the village,” said Ms O'Donnell.
Towering Limerick and Oola GAA footballer John Ryan was there when the Limerick Leader photographer paid a visit.
People who were away also lent their support.
“We were sent photos from Thailand, the UK, Portugal, Clonakilty and Dingle. We were happy to welcome the Limerick County
Board vice chairman Frank Reidy who joined us for a few laps. The rain didn’t dampen spirits with a steady flow of walkers all day.
“On behalf of the Oola GAA committee, we would like to thank everyone who walked, donated and supported us in this initiative,” said Ms O’Donnell.
She said this is only the beginning of people walking together and they are looking forward to many more walks and chats over the next few weeks and no doubt discuss the All-Ireland final!
Funds raised from the walk will also help with any future development of the walkway.
When this project started a committee was formed of James Hallisey, Pius O’ Grady, Martin Landers, Tom Bourke, Paddy Ryan and Donal Bourke, who took on the task of getting this project over the line.
Matches have been played on the new pitch and it will cater for current and future generations of boys and girls from Oola.
