Cry Before Dawn are best known for their hits Gone Forever and Dancing at the Crossroads

ONE of the defining Irish bands from the 80s will perform in Dolans this Friday, July 31.

This is part of a nationwide tour to celebrate 40 years since Cry Before Dawn signed their landmark record deal with CBS Records - now Sony Music.

Formed in Wexford in 1982, Cry Before Dawn blended guitar-driven rock with the distinctive sound of traditional Irish pipes and whistles to create a style that set them apart from their contemporaries.

Following their international record deal in 1986, the band released two double platinum-selling albums, picked up IRMA Awards for Best Newcomer and Best Irish Group.

They toured extensively throughout Ireland, the UK and the United States, and twice sold out Dublin’s National Stadium, cementing their place among Ireland’s biggest live acts.

They were best known for their big hits Gone Forever and Dancing at the Crossroads.

After stepping away from the spotlight in 1990, Cry Before Dawn reunited in 2011, releasing a Best Of collection, new music and a live album before returning to the stage.

In recent years, the band has enjoyed a remarkable resurgence, selling out headline shows across the country and introducing their music to a whole new generation of fans.

Their return has seen consecutive sell-out performances at the Wexford Spiegeltent, three sold-out nights at Dublin’s Whelan’s, appearances at major festivals including Forest Fest and Night & Day, and the release of their first vinyl record in more than three decades.

Now, Limerick audiences will have the opportunity to experience the band’s renowned live

performance when they take to the stage at Dolans.

Speaking ahead of the show, the band said: “It’s incredible to still be performing these songs four decades on and to see audiences continuing to connect with the music.

“Every show brings together people who were there from the beginning alongside younger fans discovering Cry Before Dawn for the first time.

“That’s something we never take for granted, and we’re really looking forward to coming back to Limerick.”

The performance will also feature the band’s latest single, Where Are The Heroes, alongside the songs that established Cry Before Dawn as one of Ireland’s most influential rock bands.

With a catalogue spanning four decades, a reputation as one of Ireland’s most compelling live acts, and renewed momentum that continues to grow, the Dolans show promises to be one of the highlights of the summer live music calendar.

Tickets are available for the Dolans gig this Friday, July 31, at 8pm from Ticketmaster.
