THE make-up of the Limerick senior hurling squad is set to undergo significant change for 2026, it is being reported this Bank Holiday Monday.

The vastly experienced duo of forward Seamus Flanagan and goalkeeper Shane Dowling are not set to be involved in John Kiely's squad next year, the Irish Independent has reported.

It is understood that while Flanagan has not been included in the Shannonsiders squad for next year, Dowling has opted to step away from the Limerick senior squad for 2026.

Feohanagh's Seamus Flanagan is a five-time All-Ireland senior medal winner with Limerick.

Shane Dowling made a remarkable return to the Limerick senior hurling panel for 2025, four and a half years after calling time on his inter-county career due to injury.

The 32-year-old was included in the squad following Nickie Quaid's ruptured cruciate ligament injury.

Na Piarsaigh clubman Dowling played a key role as a forward in Limerick ending a 45-year wait for the Liam MacCarthy Cup with victory over Galway in 2018.

He won an All-Star in 2014 and an All-Ireland club title with Na Piarsaigh in 2016.

Dowling's club Na Piarsaigh will face Ballygunner, of Waterford, in a Munster club senior hurling championship clash on Sunday next at the TÚS Gaelic Grounds, 3.30pm.
