Limerick manager John Kiely drops in to the Garryspillane dressing room after their Limerick Premier IHC final win

LIMERICK senior hurling manager John Kiely joined in the celebrations with the Garryspillane team after they were crowned Lyons of Limerick Premier Intermediate Hurling Champions on Sunday afternoon.

Limerick boss Kiely won a Limerick Senior Hurling Champinship title with his club Garryspillane in 2005 when the Knocklong side defeated Kilmallock 2-15 to 2-12 to win their first and only Limerick SHC title. That team also included TJ Ryan, Donie Ryan and Frankie Carroll.

Donie Ryan was a selector with the Garryspillane team this year, while Frankie Carroll is the current chairman of the club. TJ Ryan's son Colin followed in his father steps on Sunday afternoon when he lifted county honours.

Garryspillane defeated Effin 3-0 in a penalty shootout at the TÚS Gaelic Grounds on Sunday afternoon in the Limerick Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship final. Three penalties from Dylan O'Shea, Ciaran Sheehan and Hugh Flanagan saw Garryspillane win the penalty shooutout. An absorbing final contest ebbed and flowed and it took a penalty shooutout to decide the winners after the sides were level 4-19 to 2-25 after extra-time. A thrilling final saw the south Limerick rivals level, 2-14 each, after normal time.
