In 2024, Derek McGrath's side edged past Na Piarsaigh in their group game by a point, while it took a penalty shootout to separate the clubs in the Limerick SHC semi-finals in 2023 and Kevin Downes' sudden death penalty goal sealed the victory for Caherdavin side.

Na Piarsaigh have set the standard across Limerick hurling over the last decade, this is the city side's twelfth Limerick SHC final appearance over the last fifteen years.

Richie English missed the county champions’ 2-21 to 0-14 county semi-final victory over Ballybrown.Doon selector Dinny Moloney is hopeful that English will line out in this weekend's county final.

“He just had a bit of a tweak in his hamstring, he could have played, but he could have done more damage if he played. Hopefully he will come right, he's looking in good shape and hopefully he will be ready to go,” Dinny Moloney told Leader Sport.

Conor Boylan and John Fitzgerald remain sidelined through injury for the 2023 county champions. Boylan remains sidelined with a broken bone in his foot.

“Conor (Boylan) hasn't seen action with us, he hasn't trained with us since May. There will always be someone missing, but that's the beauty of having a strong panel it's next man up. John Fitzgerald was very unlucky, he had a terrible hamstring injury and then in his first or second training session back he did the cruciate, he's had no luck at all,” said Na Piarsaigh selector Tomas Downes.

Adrian Breen has been on target with an impressive 4-14 from play for O'Neill's side throughout the SHC. Doon sharpshooter Adam English has landed 1-45 on his club's route to the county final.

One of the key match-ups in Sunday's final will be the middle third battle between inter-county teammates William O'Donoghue and Darragh O'Donovan.

If the teams are level at the end of normal time, extra -time will be played, and if the sides are still tied, a penalty shootout will determine the county final winner.Limerick's All-Ireland winning u21 team of 2000 will be honoured on county final day.
