Stephen Walsh in action for Glenroe
GLENROE secured a thrilling 1-25 to 0-23 victory over South Limerick rivals Bruff to claim two vital points in their Round 4 Lyons of Limerick County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship in Knocklong on Friday evening.
The Ballyhoura men were powered by young stars Dáithí Dennehy and Adam and Darren Frewen, who combined for 1-15, while Bruff leaned heavily on former Limerick under-20 panellist Owen Meaney, who scored 0-12 from midfield.
Darren Frewen got Glenroe off to a perfect start within the opening minute before Danny O’Leary responded for Bruff. Early scores were traded in a tight opening, with Glenroe leading 0-4 to 0-3 by the tenth minute.
Adam and Darren Frewen added four points in the next ten minutes, but Bruff hit back through Meaney and Danny O’Leary, scoring five unanswered points to lead 0-13 to 0-10 at half-time.
Glenroe responded immediately after the restart, with Frewen and McCarthy scoring quickly. The sides exchanged points throughout the second half, with Meaney keeping Bruff in contention.
In the forty-seventh minute, Darren and Adam Frewen tied the game before Glenroe gradually seized control.
The decisive moment came when former Limerick minor Dáithí Dennehy produced a sensational solo run and finished with a brilliant goal.
Bruff tried to respond through Meaney and substitute Charlie Cronin, but Dennehy, Frewen, and McCarthy all added points to seal a memorable victory and secure the valuable two points for Glenroe.
