Former Cork hurler takes up coaching role with Mungret St Paul's

FORMER Cork hurler Pat Mulcahy has taken up a coaching role with the Mungret St Paul's senior hurling side this season. 

Mulcahy has previously served as a selector with the Cork senior hurling team under Kieran Kingston. The ex Cork hurler has previously managed his own club Newtownshandrum and CIT now known as MTU Cork at Fitzgibbon Cup level. 

During his inter-county career, Mulcahy won four Munster senior hurling championships in 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2006. He also went on to win two All-Ireland senior hurling championships in 2004 and 2005 with 'the rebels'. 

Mulcahy enjoyed huge success at club level with Newtownshandrum winning five Cork senior hurling championships, three Munster titles and an All-Ireland club title in 2003.

The former Cork hurling selector joins Brian Begley's backroom team with Mungret St Paul's. Begley is into his third year in charge of the city club. 

Mungret St Paul's were relegated from group one of the senior hurling championship in 2024. Fintan Fitzgerald who was part of the Limerick senior hurling pre-seaon squad along with Limerick U20 star Mark O'Brien are key players Begley's side. 

Limerick senior footballers Jason Hassett, Darragh O'Hagan and Jack McCarthy will be balancing commitments between football and hurling with Mungret St Paul's in 2025.
