FORMER Limerick hurler Barry Hennessy has announced his retirement from his club Kilmallock. During his club career Hennessy won four Limerick senior hurling championship titles in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2021. 

2014 was a standout season for Hennessy and Kilmallock. 

In the 2014 season, Kilmallock went on to win the Limerick and Munster Senior Hurling Club Championship title. The south Limerick club were defeated by Ballyhale Shamrocks in the All-Ireland Club Hurling Championship Final in 2014.

Conor Hanley Clarke who has been drafted into the Limerick senior hurling panel by John Kiely this year and Hanley Clarke is likely to play in goals this year for Kilmallock.

Hennessy has been appointed as Smith O'Briens manager. The former Limerick goalkeeper takes charge of the Clare club for the 2025 season. 

The Kilmallock native will be aiming to guide the Killaloe club back to the senior grade of Clare hueling. Smith O'Briens last won the Clare Intermediate Hurling Championship in 2021. 

Hennessy has been building an impressive managerial CV. The former Limerick goalkeeper was in charge of Kerry club Lixnaw last year and he has been involved with the Ardscoil Rís Dr Harty Cup teams in recent seasons. 

The four time All-Ireland winner won four Munster senior hurling championship titles during his inter county career with Limerick from 2010 until 2022. 

Barry Hennessy captained his club last year. Na Piarsaigh narrowly defeated Kilmallock in the Limerick SHC semi-final in 2024. 

Cratloe native James Hickey has replaced Peter Queally as manager of the Kilmallock senior hurling team this year.
