FOUR Limerick schools will take part in this year's Dr Harty Cup, Munster post-primary schools senior ‘A’ hurling competition.
Ardscoil Rís, John the Baptist Community School, Hospital Scoil Na Tríonóide Naofa, Doon and Castletroy College will all compete in this year's hurling competition.
Group 1 consists of John the Baptist Community School, Scoil Na Tríonóide Naofa, Rice College Ennis and CBC, Cork.
Round one of the Dr Harty Cup gets underway on Wednesday, October 16 at 1:30pm.
John the Baptist Community School take on Rice College, Ennis in their opening game. Scoil Na Tríonóide Naofa, of Doon, face CBC, Cork.
Group Two consists of Ardscoil Rís, Castletroy College, Our Ladys Templemore and Colaiste Choilm Ballincollig. Ardscoil Rís face off against Castletroy in a local derby in the opening round of fixtures.
Ardscoil Rís remain strong contenders once again to lift the title. The city-based school came up just short in last year's final and they will be hoping to lift the Munster post-primary competition for the first time since 2018.
Seven Limerick minor hurlers are part of this year's Ardscoil Rís squad which include: Conor Ryan, Jack Cosgrove, Patrick Kearney, Conor Ryan, John O'Keefe, Malachy McKenna and Eoin Brosnan. Clare minor hurling star Marc O'Brien is also a member of the squad.
Castletroy Colloge reached last year's preliminary quarter-final and the city-based school will be looking to build on last year's campaign.
Limerick U20 star and Monaleen senior star Matthew Fitzgerald will be a key player for them again this year. Ten of the Monaleen team that won the premier minor title are part of the Castletroy squad.
John the Baptist Community Sschool also reached last year's preliminary quarter-final.
Hugh Flanagan has impressed throughout the Limerick premier intermediate championship for Garryspillane. The Herbertstown side will be led by Flanagan and Limerick minor hurlers Rory Hanly and Diarmuid Hurley.
Scoil Na Tríonóide Naofa missed out on qualifying for the knockout stages last year.
Eamon Richardson was part of the Limerick minor hurling panel this year and the Doon clubman will hope his school can improve on last year's campaign.
