Shane Kingston of Cork calls on clubs to get involved in the the Eir 'Poc Tapa Challenge' | PICTURE: Sportsfile
CORK hurling star Shane Kingston is convinced that it doesn't matter where you play Limerick "it'll always be a serious challenge, regardless of the venue" as he spoke at Eir HSQ during the week ahead of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship semi-final between the Rebels and the Shannonsiders in Croke Park on Sunday, July 7 at 4pm.
Kingston also admitted that he "isn't one to dwell too much on the past" as himself and rest of the Cork team psych themselves up to take on the five-time All-Ireland champs.
Shane went on to say: "It is a huge task no matter where you are playing and any Munster team you face is a huge task to get a win over. We have seen how the games have gone over the last number of years and anyone can beat any other team on the day it all depends, but look we are well aware of the task we have ahead of us in two weeks time and it's all about getting ourselves right now and not worrying about anyone else."
Limerick come into their fifth straight All-Ireland semi off the back of another incredible Munster Final victory over Clare and a number of weeks off as Cork went the long way around having to beat Dublin to get through to the semi-final in Croker.
Despite understanding the challenge that lies ahead Cork have a slight upper hand after beating Limerick in the round robin series of this year's Munster Senior Hurling Championship, in which Shane had a clinical part in after being awarded a penalty which in-turn won the game for his side.
Kingston made it extremely clear though that the Rebels are not even thinking about their Munster win over Limerick and only concentrating on righting the wrongs from the All-Ireland final against the same opposition in 2021.
"We didn't do ourselves any justice that day in Croke Park so you would really be looking to rectify that performance, especially against the same opposition in Dublin once again. Fellas are a bit older and more mature so I think we are set better this time around, we are hoping that will stand to us going into this semi-final."
eir, Ireland’s leading telecommunications provider, is calling on GAA clubs across the country to take part in the ‘eir for all’ Poc Tapa Challenge to be in with a chance to win up to €5,000 for their club and the chance to play on the hallowed turf of Croke Park on All Ireland Semi-Final Day.
