CRIMINALS who struck over the festive period were as clever as the crooks in Christmas movie Home Alone as they managed to get a BMW SUV – valued at well over €100,000 – stuck in the mud.
The 201 Black BMW X7 Sport model was stolen from a property in Bruree. According to the BMW website, a new model costs over €160,000.
A garda spokesperson confirmed to the Limerick Leader that officers were investigating a burglary which occurred in Bruree on Saturday, December 24 at approximately 1.45am.
The car thief didn’t travel very far as the vehicle was located only a couple of miles away. It is understood gardai received a report from a member of the public this Tuesday that the BMW was in a field on the Kilmallock side of Bruree village.
It is not known how long it was there after the driver found themselves marooned in mud and made good their escape.
A tractor was required to recover the SUV from the farmland.
Anybody who can assist gardai with their investigation is asked to contact Bruff garda station on 061 382940.
