THE Irish Blood Transfusion Service has confirmed details of its blood donation clinics in Limerick in the run up to Christmas.

Appealing to people to make a donation, a spokesperson said: "In the run up to Christmas and over the holiday period we hope people will  make time to give blood. It's a busy time of year for everybody, but it's also a time when we need our donors most."

The IBTS estimates that around 200 people across Ireland will need a blood transfusion every day over the Christmas and New Year period.

The Limerick clinics during Christmas week are as follows

Thursday, December 22 (4.45pm - 8pm)

Newport Community Centre Newport

Wednesday, December 21 (4.45pm - 8pm)

Those intending to donate blood at any of the Limerick clinics are asked to phone 1800 222 111 to book an appointment.
