STAFF at two neighbouring outlets in Limerick are celebrating after securing Tidy Towns honours.

Limerick City Tidy Towns has presented its double monthly award for November and December to Metis Ireland and Limerick City College, located at 88 and 89 O’Connell Street in the city centre respectively.

Maura O'Neill, of the Tidy Towns group says traditionally around this time of year, they would recognise festive exterior designs.

"We also always like to try to include a Georgian building as one of our monthly winners as they are such an important part of Limerick’s built heritage and we are therefore delighted that our joint winners Metis Ireland and Limerick City College at 88 and 89 O’Connell Street tick both of those boxes, as their Georgian exteriors, doors, windows and steps which are perfectly maintained all year round are now enhanced by beautiful matching Christmas lights provided by Time4Lights, which are very much in keeping with the traditional buildings," she said.

Metis Ireland is a financial firm, founded in 2014 and headed up by industry veteran Carl Widger. It moved into Limerick's main thoroughfare early last year, with local designer Tess Stanford giving the interior of the office a tasteful renovation.

Limerick City College meanwhile is an language school that was established in 2010.

Metis Ireland and Limerick City College become Limerick City Tidy Towns's final monthly award winners for 2022, and as a result will be in with the chance of winning this year’s overall prize at their annual event to be held early in the New Year.

The winners from January and February 2020 will also be included in the overall event, as well as Treaty City Brewery, Khan Supermarket, Seoidin Jewellery, Souths Pub, The Bedford Townhouse and Café, Wickham Way Market, The Locke Burger, Annemarie Bourke Art Gallery and Studio and Esquire Menswear all of whom have won monthly awards so far in 2022

If you wish to nominate a business in the city for a monthly award or indeed to volunteer with Limerick City Tidy Towns, they meet every Sunday morning at 11am at the corner of Thomas Street and O’Connell Street.
