THE CHIPS were down for a young man who “smashed” the perspex screen in a take-away.

Conor Roche, aged 24, of Ballyvoreen, Pallasgreen pleaded guilty to criminal damage, an offence under the Public Order Act and intoxication at Mega Bites in Bruff on October 3, 2021.

Inspector Liam Wallace said the defendant was in the premises and “seems to have got annoyed”.

“He smashed the perspex causing €620 worth of damage. Gardai attended the scene,” said Insp Wallace, who added that Mr Roche has no previous convictions.

Con Barry, solicitor for Mr Roche, said his client had the full compensation of €620 in court for the owner of the business.

“He was drinking on the night. He apologies to the State and the owner of the premises. He is back working now,” said Mr Barry.

Judge Patricia Harney asked if Mr Roche had a grievance?

“No, no grievance or anything like that,” said Mr Barry.

Judge Harney gave Mr Roche credit for his previous good record. The judge fined him €100 for criminal damage, €200 for Section 5 of the Public Order Act.

The intoxication offence was taken into consideration.
