In Pictures: Thousands turn out as Christmas Lights are switched on in Limerick town

THERE was adulation in Abbeyfeale as thousands turned out in force to turn on the Christmas lights in the town, kicking off the festive season.

Local resident and Mayor of Limerick Cllr Francis Foley led the celebrations which took place in The Square on Friday, November 25.

Mayor Foley pressed the big button to great cheers at 6pm.There were cheers all around as the West Limerick town welcomed Santa and Mrs Clause on the night, who arrived as part of a decorated tractor run.

"There was an unbelievable crowd, everything went off really well," said Geraldine O' Brien, a member of the organising committee.

This year, the Abbeyfeale Christmas Lights Committee went all out, replacing the older lights for much more efficient new LED ones.

Locals, who attended the first in-person switching on ceremony since 2019, were also treated to festive carol singing on the night.

The committee will be bag packing to raise funds in Supervalu, Abbeyfeale this Friday and Saturday.
