A number of wreaths were laid at Pery Square in the city
MAYOR of Limerick, Cllr Francis Foley joined members of the local branch of the Royal British Legion to honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Around 1,000 Limerick men fought in World War I and World War II and they were honoured at the city’s war memorial in Pery Square.
During Remembrance each November, these events are remembered across the world.
A two-minute silence was marked at the stroke of 11am on November 13.
Mayor Foley was joined by Loic Guyon, the Honorary Consul of France to Limerick, alongside Senator Maria Byrne, along with councillors Sarah Kiely and Kieran O’Hanlon.
While the first citizen laid a wreath on behalf of the local authority, a number of other groups also left remembrances including the Limerick branch of the Royal British Legion.
There was music on the day from the St Mary’s Prize Band which provided a backdrop to the sombre event. Following the commemoration, there was a get-together of veterans in the officer’s mess at Sarsfield Barracks.
