Miss Limerick Ciara O’ Halloran, Miss Limerick North Christina Alcazar and Miss Clare Emma Austin Organisers of Cheers and Chats for Charity event
LAST Thursday I was delighted to MC the fantastic “Cheers and Chats for Charity’ event at 101 O’Connell Street. Miss Limerick Ciara O’Halloran, Miss Limerick North Christina Alcazar and Miss Clare Emma Austin successfully joined forces to organise their special event.
The occasion was planned and set in motion as part of their beauty with a purpose mission as Miss Ireland ambassadors. The ladies organised a night of glamour and beauty while promoting mental health awareness and well being.
The night kicked off in song with a wonderful performance from Miss Limerick North Christina Alcazar. This was followed by a fashion show; models were friends of the girls that had taken part in the Miss Limerick/Clare selections earlier this year. Models showcased beautiful pieces from local brands and shops including Dani’s Closet and Showroom, AOIFE by Aoife Mc Namara, Connolly’s Menswear and Esquire Menswear. My co-MC on the night and fellow The Leader columnist Patrick McLoughney brought us up to date on what’s HOT in men’s fashion as well as some top tips on styling your occasion wear!
The fashion show was followed by a discussion panel hosted by Sean McCarthy who was joined by special guests, journalist and author of Broken Love Meghann Scully, Sean Daly founder of the Pink Pinkie Project. Both guests spoke passionately and evocatively about mental health and dealing with grief.
All funds raised were donated directly to Variety Children’s Charity, a non profit children’s charity helping disabled and disadvantaged children. The charity partnered with Miss Ireland this year and contestants from all across the country were tasked with raising money in their desired way. It is unusual that contestants come together but I think Miss Limerick, Miss Limerick North and Miss Clare proved that there most certainly is strength in unity!
The night was a huge success with the girls raising €1,400 which will be donated to children in Limerick and Clare regions.
The girls will proudly represent their counties in the Helix in Dublin this weekend for the Miss Ireland final. Follow their journeys on Instagram @missirelandorg
I'm a Celeb Limerick GAA fundraiser
I am both terrified and excited about this - Limerick GAA last week launched their fundraiser with a difference, “I’m a Celeb Get Me out of Here’ will take place on Friday September 27, 2019, in the South Court Hotel at 7.15pm.
I will be a contestant on the night and proudly represent my drawn sponsors, The Hurlers Bar in Castletroy.
The event is very like the ITV Show, with two teams (Team Snake Rock & Team Croc Creek) competing against each other for King/Queen of the Jungle. The teams are challenged to collect stars and overcoming their greatest fears of the Jungle! Twenty four contestants become camp mates for the night and will be put to the test by taking part in a variety of Bush Tucker Trials. Who can survive the Hell Holes, bugs and snakes and devour gourmet critters to overcome a series of spine tingling and tension filled trials to beat their opponents, and be crowned King/Queen of the Jungle?
This event is being organised to raise finances that will go towards the overall support of Limerick Hurling & Football teams in 2019/20. More info @limerickgaa.ie
