EVERYTHING the Munster Rugby Supporters Club Choir do they do with passion.

Best known for singing on the pitch before Munster home matches in Thomond Park and Irish Independent Park, the choir is also committed to supporting local charities. Mid Western Cancer Foundation is the nominated one this season.

Days before choir members will raise the roof in Coventry during Munster’s Heineken Champions Cup semi-final clash with Saracens they presented a cheque for €1,900 from fundraising.

Helena Joy, choir member, said before performing on the pitch for the Munster v Leinster match on December 29, they entertained shoppers on O'Connell Street.

“Despite the wet weather, the renditions of rugby anthems and county songs went down very well with the people of Limerick who gave generously to the cause. Bank of Ireland  supported the choir’s efforts by matching the funds collected on the day through their Give Together initiative,” said Helena.

Olive Burdett and Lucia Randles, from the Munster Rugby Supporters Club Choir, accompanied by Esther Lynch and Emer McGrath, of Bank of Ireland, presented a cheque for €1,900 to Professor R. K. Gupta and Lisa Tracey, of the Mid Western Cancer Foundation.

“Everyone is touched by cancer and with the Mid Western Cancer Foundation, all donations are used in the region to enhance services for patients attending the cancer centre at University Hospital Limerick

“It is deeply rewarding for choir members to be able to connect with the wider community in supporting and raising awareness of such a vital organisation,” said Helena.

This Saturday, the Munster Rugby Supporters Club Choir will get back to normal duties and back their team to the hilt.

“Not as many choir members are able to travel as did to Edinburgh for the quarter-final when we gave the team a special send off at Shannon airport with a flash mob of the iconic Munster anthem Stand Up and Fight. Nonetheless those who will travel will raise their voices in the Ricoh Arena on Saturday at 3.15pm – C'mon Munster!” said Helena.
