Underage girl was sold alcohol at Limerick off-licence

The business is no longer operational but a fine was issued to the owner

THE owner of an off-licence which sold alcohol to an underage girl was fined €120.

Inspector Andrew Lacey told Newcastle West Court a test-purchaser, who was under garda supervision, bought a number of bottles of West Coast Cooler at the Carry Out premises at Church Street, Abbeyfeale at 9.50am on November 3, 2017.

Solicitor Michael O’Donnell said his client - 41-year-old Gerard Smith - had been tested previously but “slipped up” on the date of the offence.

He added the business closed shortly after the detection and is no longer trading.

Judge Mary Larkin noted this but said she was still obliged to impose a two-day Closure Order.
