Limerick man arrested after video of guns being fired posted on Facebook

A MAN has been arrested following a video of three males brandishing and firing shotguns appeared on Facebook.

Bruff Superintendent Brian Sugrue said gardai are investigating the “circumstances behind the video that was published widely on social media”.

It shows three men in balaclavas holding shotguns which the Leader understands was recorded in a location in County Limerick. One of the men said: “Ye made a bad f*****g mistake my friend. You think you’re the only ones with guns. Listen to this”. The three then pull the triggers on their weapons. The video was posted on Wednesday, March 20.

That night Bruff gardai with the assistance of the Armed Support Unit arrested a male in the Bruree area.

He was brought before Limerick District Court on Thursday, March 21 where he was charged with possession of an offensive weapon understood not to be a firearm. He was remanded in custody with consent to bail and is due up in court tomorrow, Tuesday, March 26.

Supt Sugrue said gardai in Cork are also involved because there is an allegation of a threat to kill an individual from Cork.

“Searches have been conducted and the investigation is ongoing. We invite anyone who can assist us to contact gardai in Charleville or Bruff,” said Supt Sugrue.
