Who will follow in the footsteps of Sr Helen Culhane as Limerick Person of the Year for 2018?

AN individual or group of individuals who best exemplified the spirit of Limerick in 2018 will be named the Limerick Person of the Year at a gala awards ceremony this Thursday.

There are 12 outstanding candidates in the running for the prestigious award.

The overall winner will be revealed at a lunchtime ceremony at the Clayton Hotel.

The 12 monthly award recipients were honoured during 2018 for a broad range of accomplishments ranging from hard-hitting campaigns for justice, excellence on the sporting field, and selfless endeavours which benefit the local community, to those who make an invaluable contribution to policing, business, and entertainment in the Mid-West region.

Eugene Phelan, managing editor of the Limerick Leader, said that the calibre of the nominees and the feats they accomplished in 2018 is “remarkable”.

“Thursday’s award ceremony will be a fantastic occasion to recognise the great work being done by Limerick people in all aspects of life. The year 2018 was a very special one for Limerick people for lots of different reasons and on Thursday we get the chance to reflect on those achievements and honour the people and teams behind them,” said Mr Phelan.

The awards ceremony will be compered by RTE’s Petula Martyn and Lorcan Murray.

The awards are proudly sponsored each year by the Limerick Leader, media agency Southern and the Clayton Hotel.
