‘The Original Mr Binman’: Martin Sheahan RIP
A LIMERICK man, one of the most successful entrepreneurs in Ireland who helped transform waste collection services here, has died.
Martin Sheahan from Luddenmore, Grange as his death notice states was “The original Mr Binman”, founding the company in the early 1990s.
He was one of the first people in Ireland to offer a private bin collection service, as councils across the country were the main providers of the service at that time.
Mr Sheahan set up a state of the art recycling operation in Ballyneety and was one of the first people to help promote the recycling concept.
He started in the construction and plant hire service and started off in the 90s in the bin collection service with one truck and two employees. He grew the operation and at one stage had collection services in not only Limerick, but Clare, Waterford, Tipperary, Cork, Laois and other counties.
He had over 330 employees working for him and another 270 or so who people who worked indirectly as a result of his operation.
He is very deeply regretted by his loving wife Mary, sons Micheal, Martin and Mark, daughter Marie, grandchildren Jack, Cian, Thomas, Emilie and Christine, brothers Joe and Pat, son-in-law Conor, daughters-in-law Siobhan and Shonagh, extended family, all other relatives, kind neighbours and friends.
