GARDAI in Limerick are appealing for information following an assault on a busy city street.

Gardai said the victim “was suddenly punched into the face by a male” as he was walking on Parnell Street last Saturday at around 7.55pm.

“Parnell Street is a busy street and investigating Gardai in Roxboro are hoping that a motorist or somebody walking by might have seen this assault,” said Sgt Ber Leetch, divisional crime officer.

Sgt Leetch said that “when an assault happens out of the blue, it can render a person unable to describe their assailant because of the shock.

“The Garda campaign of “Use your brains not your fists” reminds young people that an assault can wreck a victim’s life, it can cause mental and physical injuries that might have to be lived with for a very long time. It can of course ruin the life of the attacker too as they could lose their job, their ability to travel and even their freedom if the injuries to the victim are serious enough.

“Walk away is the best advice given and in doing this you are using your brains and not your fists,” she added.
