Panda Greenstar is seeking to open a new recycling facility at the Atlas Aluminium site just off the Dock Road
PANDA Greenstar is seeking to open a new recycling facility at the Atlas Aluminium site just off the Dock Road.
Plans lodged with Limerick City and County Council by Starrus Eco Holding, trading as Panda Greenstar, are seeking the change of use on an existing light industrial unit to a recycling facility.
Greenstar is seeking to move its existing recycle facility from its current site at Bunlickey to Atlas Avenue, in a move which is hoped will free up space at existing land.
Documents provided to the planning authority state if it gets permission, the operation will focus on the processing of clean plastic and cardboard.
“The facility will operate only with clean, recyclable materials. No odorous, hazardous or municipal solid waste will be processed in the facility,” they state.
The proposals have been welcomed by the Green Party’s local election candidate Brian Leddin.
But he urged the council and Greenstar to keep an eye on the surrounding environment if the development is green-lit.
They must ensure, he said: “it does not adversely impact on the local amenity and there is no impact on the Lower Shannon special area of conservation. The council must be proactive in making sure the effect on residents and the environment is mitigated and monitored on an ongoing basis.”
